Expansion Deepens CPA Firm’s Strength Across Kansas with Acquisition

Adams Brown has merged with VonFeldt, Bauer & VonFeldt (VBV), with offices in Manhattan and Larned, effective Nov. 1, 2023. This strategic acquisition allows the Wichita-based accounting, audit, tax, advisory and technology consulting firm to expand its footprint across Kansas, bringing the total number of offices to 12 in Kansas and two in Arkansas.

The entire VonFeldt leadership team, including Aaron VonFeldt, CPA, Houston Pierce, Aaron Koehn, CPA, Sarah Johnson, CPA and Kathy Couchman, CPA will join Adams Brown in similar leadership roles.

“We knew we wanted to have a presence in Manhattan, and further strengthen our position in central Kansas. As soon as I met the VBV leadership team, I knew they’d be a great fit for us,” said Ben Wilson, managing principal & CEO. “Their experience, local roots and shared values resonate greatly with our firm, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the team.”

VBV has been in business for more than 40 years and serves a variety of audit, tax and accounting clients. Their client makeup overlaps cohesively with many Adams Brown industry specializations, including agriculture, construction, healthcare, municipalities, manufacturing and closely-held business.

“There is a lot of synergy between our firms,” said Pierce. “Over the years, other firms have contacted us about a possible merger, and we always said ‘no.’ We were drawn to Adams Brown’s holistic service model and dedication and commitment to serving Kansas communities and local businesses.”

With Adams Brown recognized by Inside Public Accounting (IPA) as the largest firm headquartered in Kansas, this combination makes additional services available to clients and extends professional development for team members. This move also provides Kansas State University students the opportunity to work at IPA’s 110th largest firm in the country without having to move to a larger metro area for that experience.

“We’re excited about the growth and specialization opportunities our teammates now have as part of a larger firm. Together, we have a unified vision of going above+beyond to enhance the success of both our team and clients,” said VonFeldt.
